Changes to EYFS safeguarding in Bristol - have your say

The team at Class Recruit in Clifton picked up an interesting consultation taking place on EYFS safeguarding in Bristol and across the UK.

The DfE has published a new consultation on proposed changes to Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) safeguarding requirements.

This consultation could lead to significant changes in EYFS safeguarding in Bristol.

The aim of any changes is apparently to strengthen existing safeguarding requirements in Bristol Early Years settings and to ensure that all children are kept as safe as possible.

The EYFS safeguarding consultation is aimed at a wide-ranging number of groups including Early Years providers.

Some of the proposed changes include:

Amendments to ensure safer Early Years recruitment in Bristol, including new requirements to obtain references and safeguarding policies that include procedures to follow in the recruitment of suitable candidates.

Creation of new requirements for following up if a child is absent from a Bristol Early Years setting for a prolonged period, and amendments to ensure that nursery providers hold additional emergency contact details.

New requirements to ensure safer eating in Early Years settings across Bristol.

The creation of a safeguarding training annex and a requirement for safeguarding policies to include details of how safeguarding training is delivered within Bristol nurseries and other Early Years settings.

Requirement for Early Years students and trainees are required to have paediatric first aid (PFA) training for settings in Bristol.

Amendments to ensure children's privacy when changing nappies and toileting is considered and balanced with safeguarding needs in Bristol nursery settings.

The safeguarding consultation is running until Monday 17th June.
